Heating/Cooling in Japan Homes?

older japanese homes use kerosene space heaters in winter, , oscillating fan in summer. quality of kerosene higher , has less smell kerosene sold space heaters in us. newer homes have wall-mounted electric heating , cooling systems in 1 unit. central heating and/or air conditioning system typical in virtually unknown in japan.

@thecheapest, own answer shows homes don"t have heat. have space heaters, kotatsu, , in newer homes, ductless wall-mounted electric heat. none of these constitute heating system integral part of home. kotatsu piece of furniture light bulb attached purpose of providing heat source. call home heating system makes sense calling electric blanket home heating system.

i have been researching japan place move in future , read in book homes dont have air conditioning or heating. can please explain how works?
if live in apartment building there no heat in winter? how stay warm?
thank you!
