Rent or buy ski equipment?

hey, name wilson , im 14.
have joined school ski team , wondering if should rent or buy ski equipment. parents rented ski equipment not sure keep them or buy some.
not come wealthy or poor family on "poorish side" not want give family hard time , waste money on ski equipment no longer in use in couple of years (dreams chemical engineer.)
please help!
