How do people get such good shades in their drawings?

it's not technique. it's knowing values should placed. have know what's going on...if do, how unimportant.

proper placement of values(shading in terms) creates visual choreography on it's own regardless of technique. let's take advice here example...it doesn't matter if blend or crosshatch or scratch. placement of value(shades) works. contrarily, bad placement bad no matter how smooth , refined technique is.

is there technique or type of pencil have use?
can close still doesn't good.
