Do I need a primer before I paint my walls?

ok i'm going painting room on christmas vacation have 2 weeks off of school. ( starts dec 21 )
have no idea painting except how paint..if makes sense. know how paint roller , tape stuff off , smaller brush.
anyways..
i'm going light cotton candy pink color more of vibrant coral color. mixture between orange , pink. basically. need primer before paint on color? in painting walls grey/white?? color turn out different if don't?? how many coats??
p.s. ~ i'm painting single stripe dark red. want glittery cannot glitter paint. alright use glitter spray paint? clear glitter in it?
