Unmarked hazard at ski resort wrecked my snowboard-- am I responsible for the costs or is the resort?

brought out brand new snowboard last night ski hill while snowing, , after couple hours friend , went down hill connecting 2 chairlifts (a designated hill). when started going down, realized bumpy, thought hardened ice since of snow man-made time of year. half way down saw rock fly up, stopped , realized rock/ gravel half inch of snow on top. there no markings @ top saying not open, no barriers or anything, , looked open (we saw couple people go down ahead of us). anyway, wrecked brand new board, , ski resort manager spoke (not sure how high was) said liability since kind of thing happens, , there no reason mark before snowed. prefer not have buy brand new board, possible them pay fix if possible, or me new board? or responsibility? read lift ticket have, , doesn't address equipment damage or anything- , didn't have sign or read, etc. given lift ticket terms on before used ski resort.
