My mother's upper arm is aching, please... I need help.?

hello, quite time now, maybe since summer of june in 2012, mother's upper arm started hurt. until now, seems worse. every time massage it... have softly , slowly. pain runs upper arm right side neck. hurts, in pain can't sleep @ night. very worried her.. doing best ease own massaging bit. mother quite old too.... there anything, anything, @ home remedy treat upper arm ache? please... mother told me seen doctor... , suggested see a specialist.. ma stubborn, want ease ache/pain if bit. tips? thank ur help...
