Why US and its allies (western coountries) call South Korea just "Korea"?

teacher in korea , people here refer both korea, since have same language, , history. have been connected 5,000 years culture being split doesn't make of difference historically speaking. country has been invaded , fought on before reunified eventually. believe north , south come again someday still korea in mind, , people there still koreans different government.
