IPod is very slow. Any solutions?

ipod slow. 3rd gen 32 gb ipod got christmas 4 or 5 yrs ago. , don't mean internet. crash , reboot out of blue. wen i'm using safari crash safari , take me ipod home screen. , apps facebook not work more maybe 5-10 seconds. there can fix or old , doomed.
